Precision Machine Shop Service Let our machine shop rebuild your engine for you. From small single cylinder engines to large diesels, our shop can handle them all. We start by cleaning all parts then inspect them for defects and cracks. Cast iron is cleaned using caustic soda solution. We use a jet wash machine. The parts are rotated through a spray of 80 gallons per minute. Then rinsed and checked by magnetic particle inspection for cracks. Aluminum is cleaned in a soak tank and we can pressure test heads and blocks to check for leaks or use a die penetrant to check for cracks or flaws. Once the head or block is found to be a good casting, it is examined and an estimate can be made to determine the cost of repair. Cylinder heads are checked for valve guide wear, valve wear and straightness. Blocks are checked for taper or out of round. We can install new cast or bronze valve guides depending on the customer request. Blocks are bored, new cam bearings installed. Crankshafts are measured and polished or ground as needed. For resurfacing blocks or heads we use a machine that can precision cut the type of finish required for the application. Aluminum requires a very smooth finish. We use a cubic born nitride insert and the speed at which the cylinder head or block passes under the insert determines the smoothness of the finish. We can do aluminum or cast iron. Thad Harms can also port and polish heads. He has had several years experience porting and polishing high performance heads. He can also talk to the customer, and by determining the application, recommend the type of camshaft to use. We also turn brake drums and rotor, resurface flywheels, exhaust manifolds and also grind tractor axle shafts. Stop in and visit our machine shop and get a free quote on an engine rebuild.
